Network Effect by Martha Wells
3.0
I'll admit, I'm not a Murderbot groupie, so I wasn't likely to come out of this with a 5-star review regardless. But I do have to give props to Wells for a) making a character who is so equally ambivalent and protective, b) maintaining a character who can actively monitor several different situations/inputs at a time, and c) not let it get boring.
The problem really was that none of the other characters get to develop. We don't get much one-on-one interaction beyond what's needed for the plot, so while we get a lot more depth to Murderbot itself, the rest of the characters were just names to keep track of when Murderbot had to worry about keeping them all safe and knowing where they all were at any given time.
