Table for Two by Amor Towles

5.0

With each book I read by him I am more and more convinced that Amor Towles is one of the most prominent authors of our time. His ability to craft a captivating story, regardless of length, is phenomenal.
Table for Two is comprised of six short stories and a novella. The six stories mostly take place in NYC around the early 2000’s and each is written with the same style and grace as Mr. Towles’ longer novels. The characters are well developed, the details are well described, and the plots are charming. The novella, however, was my favorite part. It is a follow up to Rules of Civility, following Evelyn Ross after she left NYC. It is told via alternating viewpoints and while some chapters appear to time jump to the past all are woven together to create another fantastic story.
If you’ve never read anything by Mr. Towles before I highly suggest you make sure you do. All of his books are so beautifully written and are all vastly different, but all will leave you feeling both satisfied and wishing for more by the end.
