The story itself I don't think is crazy orgional and unique. It's pretty standard YA but there's still quite a lot of uniqueness throughout the book and I still really enjoyed it! Really solid characters, really solid world building (that includes the magic system as well. I thought it was really interesting and I loved reading about Kate's ability to connect with animals) and the story kept me hooked.

It's definitely a little slow paced but I was listening to the audiobook on double speed so I didn't mind too much. I absolutely loved all of the main characters in this book and I especially adored Signe (and her friendship with Kate. 👌🏻) Also this book has some solid romance which I'm here for! It's been awhile since I've read a fantasy with good romance and I've been desperate so this made me happy. Lots of angst and not insta lovey at all (thank God!)

This is small and totally just a me thing but I totally loved the focus and attention the horses got in this fantasy. You can really tell Mindee is a horse rider herself and as an ex rider and fellow horse lover I just loved all the attention to detail and love for riding and horses had.

All in all while I didn't absolutely fall head over heels this book I still really enjoyed it and would highly recommend it to anyone interested! I'm definitely looking forward to he sequel. Though I'm kind of feeling it's going in the direction of a lot of fantasy sequels which I kind of hate. 😂
