Couldn’t put this book down! I fell in love with Hannah and Garrett! I suddenly want to find myself a hockey boyfriend, and if Briar University was real… I’d be registering and attending right away!
Right when I started reading, I felt like I was transported back to my college days ( minus having a gorgeous hockey player to tutor). I loved Hannah and I loved her strong work ethic to everything she did. *Trigger Warning* from the beginning of the story, we’re told of Hannah’s rape. Hannah is a lovely character who, despite still trying to navigate her life after suffering a horrible event, she doesn’t lose sight of living her day to day life as best as she can. Hannah is the kind of girl, who can be shy and sweet, but also be strong minded and put you in your place ( kind of how she fires back at Garrett).
At first, when I started reading Garrett’s P.O.V. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like him due to the way he speaks, but then I remembered he’s a 20 year old college student so it made sense to the way he spoke. Garrett started to grow on me also immediately after I started seeing his perspective. People at Briar such as, Hannah saw Garrett as nothing but a jock, but in reality Garrett is actually intelligent and is quick to show others (ahem Hannah) that’s he’s not dumb.
Together Hannah and Garrett grew from annoyed classmates, to friends, to something more. I really appreciated how Garrett was sweet and understanding of Hannah’s past, and made sure she was always comfortable. Likewise, I enjoyed that Hannah started to open up again, Garrett allowed her to be vulnerable in a safe space, and overall both have good character development.
Both Hannah and Garrett have dealt with things that have impacted their lives, and together they became vulnerable with one another, and developed a beautiful relationship where they each felt safe with one another. My heart broke when Garrett talked about his childhood *Trigger Warning* his father physically abused him. On the surface, Hannah and Garrett seemed like they are fine to other people, but underneath they are still filled with the past trauma they experienced.
I also really enjoyed the humor in this book. While this book does delve into some serious, dark matters, there’s still some humor to lighten the mood. There were moments I couldn’t help but laugh such as, (cough, cough) *Man Monster LMAO! Especially some of Hannah & Garrett’s conversations made me laugh.
I can see why so many people love this book ( as well as the entire series), this made me nostalgic of when I was in college, and while I didn’t experience having a hockey team at my school, or have a gorgeous man to tutor on my free time, I still felt like I was part of Briar University while reading this book.
Definitely plan to read the rest of the series, and even the spin off’s. This book is amazing and can’t wait to read more!
