4.5

This book was somewhere between middle grade and young adult, as the protagonist was 14 years old and the story was a little dark. It was also hopeful and imaginative and there were some timely lessons. A kid should never have defend a city with magical baking, but sometimes adults in leadership roles fall down on the job.
