This is an interesting read with a great premise and some great character work. I was expecting something else, however, and after a powerful opening that absolutely draws you in and gives you an expectation of shock and controversial content that you have to brace yourself for, it buries itself in a relationship analysis that steers the book in a totally different direction.
This results in a book that starts off well, steers off into a romantic diversion and actually only has a couple of moments of power within in, and those powerful moments are both given anti-climactic endings. The last moments of the book follow this pattern with a mild, almost casual final thought that betrays the powerful beginning.
