Hunterland by Dana Claire

This book is something my 13-year-old self would have eaten right up. This is what I lovingly refer to as a "fast food" book. It's not high prose nor the best writing you have ever read, but the overall plot is enjoyable. It's not gourmet, it's like Applebees! This novel leans HEAVILY on many Supernatural and Shadowhunters world-building ideas to create its own. (Liam is so obviously inspired by both Dean Winchester and Jace Herondale) Admittedly, both of those stories also pull from real-life folklore, so some overlap is going to happen in many other books that have a "monster hunter" plot. The plot pacing was a bit off, however. Where it felt like the novel should have ended, it just kept going. Also, the weird turnabout in the last section of the book was...weird? The vampires are mentioned off and on, but the sudden hard focus on them at the end and the plot twists felt like they were thrown in at the last second just for the drama. Again, I would have eaten this up as a teenager, but as an adult, I'm left scratching my head. Some elements of the book I disliked. Why were there several random highly sexual scenes? I got concerned and thought I'd accidentally picked up a smut book again. Extremely concerned seeing as the main two being down bad for one another are teenagers. Yes, they're 18 but they're still in high school so...bleck. Once again, this is not the best book in the world. The main female characters are basically Mary Sue's, so many plot elements are extremely contrived, and I could see the plot twists coming from a mile away. But hey, for the most part, I had fun and that's really all that matters.

Oh, but please, for the love of god, do not put crushed Shuganite in a healing salve or balm. Please do not put ANY crushed gemstone of any kind into something that will go over a wound or onto the skin. That is how you give yourself microabrasions.

Also...what the hell is an EMF stone.
