It's not travel narrative, it's nostalgia (ah! see that Italian word right there that doesn't exist in English?? Ahah!) for a long gone Empire, where a bunch of Brits had their way through ships & guns & repression & disdain for different cultures. Which is the purest antithesis (like this Greek word better perhaps??) of an Empire.
