The Killing Queens by L.E. Boyd

3.0

Interesting concept, though...

****SPOILERS*****

I am not sure I followed the plot or characters. Everything seemed to be a collection of different backstories and surprise twists and turns without any meaningful resolution.
The cover is amazing. The concept is promising, and the writing itself kept me intrigued. I just didn’t understand the direction the author was taking. At first I thought the plot would be about a “traitor” amongst them; then there’s talk about a CHIP program, then some radioactive waste issue, then a NASA space mission...the way these segments were interconnected was just too confusing and I didn’t feel like the message that was supposed to be sent across, was made. This just needs to be a longer story. If the author didn’t limit themselves to 80 pages, there’d be room to go into the characters (some of whom whose backstories don’t get explained in full, or at all), and more time to understand the deeper messages. But I think there’s a good thing going hence the promising 3 stars.
