I read this as part of my project to read all of the books nominated for a 2023 Goodreads Choice Award in the debut category.

I feel like I'm not mad at this book, I'm just a little disappointed, particularly at the pacing. It's an incredible premise that had bright moments of execution, but that, unfortunately, spun its wheels for about 200 pages. And while the ending certainly picks up, it brings us to a place that felt a bit underwhelming for its predictability.
