I absolutely adore Romantic Suspense genre, so anytime a book comes up for review, I have always requested it - bit with less time and my TBR and ARC requests over-flowing, I had decided to be a little discriminating but somehow the blurb of this book definitely caught my interest!
This is a second chance story, so you should definitely expect a wide range of emotions with their foundation being heart wrenching angst!
We meet Billy at the start of the book - a drunk of his tush Billy, who has retreated from the world and reality to be honest! His drunkenness is interrupted when he receives a visitor from his former life, who enlightens him on the fact that his ex-girfriend who now works in a strip club is under threat from his former enemy - an ex, who left him in the hospital when he was battling for his life and vanished without a trace.
Heather is a girl who lives with regrets - and really doesn't do much living beyond eating, working and sleeping. She fell in love with a cop and left that cop when things got tough- although to be fair to her, everything that happened would have overwhelmed any one, so I decided to give her a fighting chance.
This honestly was a little underwhelming read for me - mostly because of Heather - she was definitely all over the place - her emotions and actions left a little to be desired and I couldn't really connect with her, but Billy on the other hand seemed like a stand-up guy even though he acted like a jerk at times!
But honestly, I loved how the mystery and the bad guys in this book gave me the shivers and although it might have had a predictable plot line - I did enjoy reading this one. Last point, though, it did somehow seem stretched at times, the plot I mean and but it did jerk back into place without too much fuss though.
A definitely enjoyable read for those who would love to leave reality for a while!
