It’s difficult to put into words all that this book stands for, but to put it as simply as possible, it’s the unwavering message that love conquers all. It doesn’t mean the fight will be easy, that there won’t be casualties, and that there won’t be so many things we can’t understand. The fight against evil is horrifying and excruciating, but no one is too young, too old, too average, or too imperfect to play an important role in the fight. Even when the darkness is suffocating, there is always light at the end of the tunnel and good people willing to help, love and rescue. The darkness hasn’t won. I listened to this on audio book and it was one of those books I will be buying, re-reading and highlighting the heck out of. Something the author herself said in the intro was that the book is not too complicated for kids to understand, but for adults. I felt the limitations of that so distinctly, and it made me so excited to read it with my daughter one day, to see the book through her eyes and revel in the wonder together.
