Things We've Lost and Found by Ally Williams

4.0

Man, this book was good! I literally couldn’t stop reading it. Starting out sweet with a chance meeting stuck in an elevator, this book gets spicy, moves to female empowerment, and finishes off sweet (like, I’m practically giddy!). The scenes with Annabel's work life responsibilities made her a strong, smart, and talented business woman (which I love) and Charlie's bits with his family made him caring, moral, and grounded (which I also loved). This story isn't just about them though. It also draws on deeper themes of loyalty and fidelity within relationships, devastation of slowly loosing a parent to dementia, and the trauma both of these experiences weighs on the characters. But it's not a bummer book. Far from it! Ally takes these strong themes, interweaving them with humor and great characters, to make this a captivating read.

Although I loved the story, surprises, interconnected character plotlines, and the love shared throughout the book, I REALLY enjoyed the writing!!! Ally’s scene descriptions made it easy to picture the scene, allowing me to put myself in the story easily. There’s no droning on for pages and pages to set up a scene, but Ally’s writing pulls off the same effect. (She’s like a Word Wizard or something!) Plus, her characters are super relatable and I was able to find pieces of myself within them, which I absolutely loved, as well. This book was loving, funny and spicy… everything we want!
