The Teacher by Freida McFadden

4.0

I thought this was a solid thriller but there’s a gaping plot hole that didn’t really get resolved. Sorry. I have a hard time with what ends up done to the bad guy and how the police don’t go looking.

Full review:

As I said, solid thriller, hence the four stars, but I thought that the ending ruined things. Probably because the twist was lame and also as I said, there's a big plot hole that I don't think the author thought about hard enough with regards to the police.

"The Teacher" follows Eve, she's a math teacher at the local high school along with her husband Nate, who is an English teacher. Eve though is dreading this year because she has a student in her case named Addie. Addie was part of a controversy concerning her math teacher last year, and now Eve worries that the girl is up to no good. The book follows both Eve and Addie.

I thought this was well done and I felt really bad for both Eve and Addie. And Eve's story is even more sad when you find out why her parents are partially estranged from her. Addie though at times was driving me bonkers with how naïve she was being.

The story was pretty fast paced--this is a McFadden book so that's typical. The dialogue at times though was a bit clunky. I just thought that Eve for being so smart, was really dumb. Especially when you get to the reveal about her backstory. I just thought that took me out of the story because it didn't make a lot of sense that she would ignore the red flags. And then we get to the twist and that made me side eye her too.

The ending didn't really work for me. That said, I have really enjoyed reading most of McFadden's backlist the last two weeks.
