I felt like I was starting to understand a bit with FF Vol. 1 and now I’m right back to being confused tbqh. I wish this had stuck to one storyline, I feel like the Inhumans really muddle things up for everything. A solid half of this book stops following the FF and starts following the Inhumans, characters who are admittedly cool in terms of concepts and designs but I’ve yet to find a solid reason to actually like.
If I’m being honest with myself I think I’ve been giving this series higher ratings than I should because of Spider-Man’s inclusion in it. Personally, I’m of the opinion that he fits way better with the Fantastic Four than he does with the Avengers considering how much of his past as a superhero has to do with them.
Despite this, I can’t help but feel a little let down considering this run starts with Johnny’s dying wish being for Peter to take his place on the team only for him to have very little impact on the story overall. I’m not saying he has to be the main character or anything but, I mean, he’s replacing a dead man, a man who was a close friend of his, a man whose team is his literal family, I feel like we should maybe see a bit more of his feelings every now and then. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy his inclusion and I think the fact that he just sticks to walls and gets involved in all the gossip is funny but, like, how does he feel about Johnny’s death? How are the expectations of the FF affecting him? He’s a brand new addition to the team, what are his thoughts and feelings on that?
I don’t know, a little more exploration into his character here would be nice and maybe if there were less converging storylines we would have it.
