The Minotaur and the Mage by Cora Crane
4.75
This is a great series… I love the cozy, small-town aspect of the story and I'm really enjoying the author's characters. I would not normally consider "monster romance" as a subgenre I'd expect to enjoy, but Cora Crane does such a good job with these books that I am lost in my enjoyment of them when I'm in their world. That small quarter-point deduction from perfection… it probably says more about me than the book: there were times when the human-monster sex scenes were slightly more detailed than I was comfortable with (mostly one particular aspect that disturbed me slightly, but which I can also imagine being a detail that makes the scene for another reader). This is one of those books which reminds me that, in the hands of a good writer, (sub)genre doesn't matter a whole lot: a great book is a great book and can work its magic despite whatever fences a reader may use to try to keep it out. I'm so glad I gave Elderberry Falls a chance and hope to return again soon!
