“It has always been preferable to attribute a woman’s success to her beauty rather than to her brains” - p. 290
When I started reading, I did not expect to be so touched by this book, as it reads more like a history book than a novel. However, it is a wonderful retelling of arguably the most famous woman in history. Schiff does so through beautiful descriptions and with a sense of humour. She points out the complexity of and sexism in historical sources, a lot of which is (sadly) still relevant today.
