The Word Is Murder by Anthony Horowitz
2.0
This was vaguely entertaining enough to keep going, but in the end it was really boring. The characters weren't interesting, especially Hawthorne who literally has no redeeming qualities. It felt like in the end it was just made for Horowitz to like him in some capacity even though was never a reason to. Making your main detective a homophobe, bringing it up multiple times in the book and then never having any sort of character development for him makes no sense.
I think it also would've been fine if the writer wasn't actually the author; there was nothing added to the story about being able to talk about your own works in there aside to brag about them and to name drop Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson too many damn times.
The side characters were hardly memorable, either, so when you do find out who the killer is, you really don't give a crap about their motivations.
The audiobook narrator was good, though, so I guess that made it palatable enough to finish. The Final Tintin Counter: 8
