Milk Fed by Melissa Broder
5.0
Edit: bumping this up to 5 stars because I still think about this book constantly and it has really informed my reading taste.
TW: body dysmorphia, eating disorders
Thank you Scribner for the ARC!
What a smart, erotic, funny, queer book. I can’t emphasize enough how masterful Broder’s descriptions of food and sex are, as well as how hilarious the characters are. I definitely want to go back and read all of her work now.
So many themes to digest - the longing for reciprocated love and to be cared for, and the intersections between desire, food, and bodies come to mind first, not to mention the spirited discussions around Judaism and its relationship to Zionism, as well as the conflict between who somebody is and what we want them to be.
My only tiny critique is that the brisk pacing of the book slowed down in the middle, but other than that this was an excellent read!
