The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

3.0

This was just a fun young-adult fantasy novel! I haven't read any of these in a while, and while it took me a bit to get used to the use of modern language and "easy"(for lack of a better word) writing again, the fast pace of the story got me into it quite quickly.

I like how flawed all of the characters are. And despite that, I was still rooting for Jude's character journey. The thing is with these type of characters and stories though, is that I never really get attached to/immersed in what is happening. Hence the three stars. I do think this series has room for improvement as I continue onward with the next two books. The whimsy and worldbuilding of Holly Black is something I think really suits my tastes, and I'm willing to give it a try.

The ending felt a bit abrupt, though. I think that part is where it actually got interesting for me the most!
