The Boy with the Cuckoo-Clock Heart by Mathias Malzieu

3.0

Jack is born on the coldest night in Edinburgh in 1874. Because of the deathly cold condition, Jack's heart freezes. To save him, a midwife/witch doctor named Dr. Madeline places a cuckoo-clock in his chest. As Jack gets older Dr. Madeline warns him to be careful when it comes to love. But when Jack sees Ms. Acacia, a petite street singer, he falls head over heels in love and won't rest until he finds her again.
Umm, I'm not sure how I feel about this. I would give the story 2.5 stars. It started off really great and the ending came together pretty well. It is beautifuly and poetically written but the lovey-dovey sonnets in which Jack describes his love and lust for Ms. Acacia got a little old. I found myself thinking, "ok, alright, you love her, she's beautiful.. I get it. Moving on."
Jim Dale is AMAZING. At times he was the only reason I kept listening. He made the story completely come alive and at times I was breathless while listening to his narration. He is truly a master.
