Darkness and Grace by Kathryn Schleich

4.0

Rounded down from roughly 4.5 stars ⭐️

Darkness and Grace is inspired by real events. When a member of the Pierson family gets married, everyone believes happier times are ahead. Little do they know that things are not as they seem, and the worst is yet to come.

I am a sucker for books based on real events, they draw me in in an entirely different manner to completely fictional tales. In this story I saw reflections of things my own family has had to deal with. Which further solidified the reality, frustration and horror that the family had to go through. It became a little repetitive at times, but that’s the nature of this kind of situation. The person repeats the actions that they have gained from previously.

It takes a lot to be able to shock me nowadays, but this book managed to do it. It was absolutely not what I expected. I found myself reeling and full of questions that can’t be answered. This book delves into the darker side of humanity, and the lengths abusive people will go to for their own gain. My heart absolutely broke for some of the characters and the experiences they had to deal with. This is certainly a story that will stay with me for a long time.

I recommend this to fans of thrillers, with a basis in real life. I want to thank Kathryn Schleich for allowing me to read this book and give my personal thoughts.
