The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix
4.0
I'm brand new to the horror genre, and so far it is NOT disappointing me. Grady Hendrix has a way of making scary things digestible and somehow manage to add a lot of humor into the mix. I will say, for someone who has been reading crime thrillers and true crimes non-fiction for the better part of a decade, Patricia finds a way to still be really unaware of her surroundings until it's almost too late. I love it though, it builds the suspense in a realistic way.
I also really liked how this book portrayed friendships: you have to pursue the people you want in your life, ad while Patty might have outwardly not wanted to impose, her friends knew when she needed help and rose to the occasion. Except Grace... It's like those adages about finding friends who would help you bury a body, or maybe in this case, slay a vampire.
Overall, I really enjoyed it and am slowly but surely getting hooked into Grady Hendrix's booky tendrils.
