There’s always a calm before the storm, and once again Avery was thrusted into solving another mystery, but one that introduced new characters, more dangers, a missing person, and so much more. The final book in the Inheritance Games trilogy, Avery Grambs had one more mystery to solve, and hopefully it would be the one to answer all the questions once and for all.

Right away from the beginning, it was clear that Avery was still managing to work around the Hawthorne house, but it also seemed like she’d gotten the hang of things. From roaming the house, Nash teaching her how to defend herself, Xander being there for Avery, and of course Jameson being the ever so charming Hawthorne guy that stole Avery’s heart. Grayson, on the other hand had finally gone off to Harvard, but coming back home for Avery’s birthday, it seemed there were still something unspoken between them. I definitely liked seeing Avery’s eighteenth birthday festivities! I mean, come on Avery was the heir and billionaire so it shouldn’t have surprised me the way her birthday was organized, but it was epic! In addition, with Jameson and the hot air balloon and other cute stuff he had planned for her! AHHHH I LOVED IT!

Just as I was getting all comfy and relaxed with Avery and the Hawthorne guys, a mysterious figure showed up at the Hawthorne gates… Eve… a.k.a the girl we learned about in the end of, “The Hawthorne Legacy”, and most commonly known as Toby Hawthorne’s biological daughter! With the introduction of Eve, and her being at Hawthorne house, it set off a chain of events from the knowledge that Toby was kidnapped! Even just Eve being at Hawthorne House was enough to make Grayson be shocked due to Eve’s eerily physical appearance looking exactly like Emily Laughlin. Avery was now faced with a different mystery to solve, who kidnapped Toby, what did they want? And could Eve really be trusted?

By far this book was unlike the other books in that with the creation of new clues and trying to figure out how to save Toby, this was a new playing field for Avery and the Hawthorne guys. In the midst of everything, it seemed that good old Tobias Hawthorne had another game set aside for Avery in the event that she ever met, Eve, which she did. With multiple things to figure out, Avery and the Hawthorne’s were pushed further than they ever had before. The level of intelligence that Avery and the Hawthorne’s had always amazed me because, while I might have just seen an unusual letter, they would have broken down every single aspect to the letter, and analyzed everything! Avery was a unique character that I really liked, and her ability to see things had grown over the course of these books, she started to think like a Hawthorne, after all, there’s nothing more Hawthorne than winning.

In terms of the love triangle, I was rooting for Jameson all the way, but also afraid because I didn’t want my Jameson ship to sink. I have always loved the chemistry between Avery and Jameson since they understood each other on such a deep level, that even the way they thought was on point. Despite all my love for team Jameson, I couldn’t help but notice that Avery would occasionally being looking at Grayson, or worrying about him, and that left me wondering, “umm Avery… do you like Grayson?!” When Eve arrived, a part of me questioned if Avery was jealous seeing how Grayson and Eve became close right away. My main concern throughout this book was just hoping that Jameson was endgame and that’s all I wanted! Thankfully with more moments between Avery and Jameson, my worries were washed away and my favorite couple not only ended up together, but by far had some cute, heartfelt moments in this book, Yay!

With this book being the final book in the trilogy, everything was coming to an end, but the characters all came together as one. Over the course of these books, we’ve been introduced to many characters, and in this last book it was nice seeing everyone join together in order to help solve the new clues that Avery and the Hawthorne’s discovered as well as seeing the different dynamics between one another. For instance, I love the fact that Libby and Nash were a couple or at least if you asked Libby, she denied everything haha The little moments between Nash and Libby were my favorite and (sigh) the way that Nash spoke about Libby in the future tense made me happy for them. Also, can we talk about Max and Xander for a second?! Omg I wasn’t expecting them to get together, but they were absolutely perfect for each other, perfect with their chaotic, lovable personalities.

The levels of uncovering the clues, the mystery, the level of intelligence required while playing the games always blows my mind! While reading, I would catch myself trying to recall all the details that led to the next clue to make sure I remembered, but also because, so much happens in these books that I wanted to make sure I didn’t miss a single thing. Plus, this book was so much fun to read ( as well as the other books) that I get lost in the moment of reading what Avery gets to next, and seeing how Jameson, Grayson, Xander, and Nash are doing alongside Avery as well.

Now little side rant, with the arrival of Eve, initially I wasn’t sure about her, but with the investigation going on Avery wasn’t the only one that was starting to reconsider if Eve was trustworthy. Whenever Eve was around, I got bad vibes from her as if she was knowingly manipulating those around her such as, Rebecca’s mom, and Grayson. When her true colors came out, I was like, “AHA! I KNEW SHE WAS BAD!” Also even with my initial unsure feelings of her, Eve gave me the ick, I didn’t like her nor trust her to begin with. Plus HOW DARE SHE BE IN CAHOOTS WITH THE MAN WHO KIDNAPPED/ HURT TOBY?! AHHHH HOLD ME BACK I’M GOING TO SLAP THAT GIRL!

Having finished this book I can say with utmost clarity that the title for this book was absolutely perfect and made total sense! I truly had not idea what to expect in this last book, but the plot twists just keep coming and leaving me shocked! With each book the stakes increased, and in each book Avery became more in tune with the Hawthorne’s and a formidable person that shouldn’t be underestimated. From going up against the Vincent Blake and Eve, to uncovering a variety of clues within the games that Tobias Hawthorne orchestrated, Avery had a lot going on, but didn’t let it overwhelm her. The way by far wasn’t what I was expecting, but was perfect for Avery. Especially with the very ending of the book, I was excited like wow that’s cool! I absolutely devoured this series/ book as I was hooked by Avery’s strong and knowledgeable personality, all the Hawthorne’s were great in their own way, but obviously my fave was Jameson! All in all, such a fun read that had me at the edge of my seat, anxious to know what would happen next, and getting to feel immersed within the games with the Hawthorne’s and Avery.
