Classic Jude Deveraux historical fiction with a time traveling element. Be mindful that this was written during the late 80's so the ingenue character of its time is typically the 'damsel in distress' type but I could not stand the protagonist, Dougless, a terrible name for a female main character given the 80's setting. I realize Deveraux was going for a more progressive female archetype but fails completely with a character who is just whiny and not likeable. I had hoped with the reissue of this title, she would have upgraded the character but unfortunately, it still holds to the original format which makes it very problematic and dare I say, BORING!
In addition, the original ending is intact which includes the sad nonsensical, convoluted finale which makes this read a meh for me. This is not one of her better books and I would not put this on a list to recommend.
