The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab

5.0

I picked this up after hearing the main plot “a girl makes a deal with the devil and now is immortal and no one can ever remember her.” I was intrigued because of 2 reasons:
1. That’s original, nice!
2. That’s also such a bad deal. I wonder what was the other end of the bargain, because sounds like a lose-lose deal to me.
Immortality on its own sounds like an immediate curse. But to sour the deal further with being forgotten by everyone you meet?? As someone with the (one of many) selfish trait of needing to be remembered, the craving to be missed, this sounds like a nightmare. If there is a Hell, it’s being immortal and forgotten.

The book proves itself instantly. And, without spoiling anything, don’t worry, the deal, as bad as it is, it makes sense, it checks out.

And it’s not just the story that pulls you in, it’s the writing. Every page begs to be underlined. And not just with quotes to live by, but the word choices on their own. The beauty doesn’t water down the story though. It moves fast and you don’t ever wanna leave (or forget) Addie. This book was written with a razor sharp pen. The ink never running out.
