I haven't read a lot of books in verse so this was quite new to me. But damn, this was really beautiful.
This books has gotten quite a few tabs from me. There were just so many beautiful parts that I wanted to keep and come back. The first thing I marked made me cry when I read it which was on page 33 under "A man someday".

I don't know if I'll
ever be heavy enough to
call myself a man
I want to ask you
if you ever feel like this
but I'm scared that it
will make me seem less real
This called up so many feelings I had early transitioning that it hit very close to home. I have four tabs in yellow that mark moments like this. Moments that hit me so deep because of my own journey, and wow was it beautiful to have such a moment with a book. I want to admit as well, now I'm rereading those yellow ones, and tears spring to my eyes again. They really do resonate deeply with me.
I also have a lot of tabs in pink, too many to count really. They were all the moments that made me feel full o love, full of joy, or filled with sadness. Story heavy moments in the book I wanted to mark and never forget. They were also the moments of trans wisdom, of trans strength and queer community. I started tabbing more and more the further I got into the book, which then made me realize I missed a lot of moments early on and reread those. It felt like every bit of this book was worth a pause, a lovely moment of appreciation.
The last color I used for tabbing was orange. These were the points where the prose was the thing that stood out. Passages voiced so beautiful they needed to be marked. The prose in this book I absolutely loved and was mesmerizing. The whole book is quite like that, but there were certain moments that just took my breath away, needing to be marked.
It's been a month since I read this now writing this review, and I'm feeling like I already want a reread.
