Brenna is back, and adjusting to life as the Jarl of Birca. She is working on continuing to help her people while welcoming the new people, the army of the fallen Sigurd the Black.  While Brenna didn't expect it to be easy, she also didn't expect it to be a road filled with hidden secrets, internal conflictions and treachery.

Book 2 in this series was fanatics. I enjoyed how there was some great character development. I liked watching the different parts of Brenna that she exposed to us throughout the book. I also am curious as to where the next books in the series will go, after the way this book ended.

I listened to this book via Audible and found the narrator to be brilliant. She really added to the text itself. There were parts of the story I found to be predictable but as a quick read, it wasn't very worrisome. I will say The question of Brenna's ancestry was a decent surprise but then the continual change of names made it difficult to follow at times.
