Dead Mountain: The Untold True Story of the Dyatlov Pass Incident by Donnie Eichar
4.0
Fascinating real-life science mystery: what drove nine experienced Russian hiker-mountaineers out of their tent and to their deaths in sub-zero weather in February 1959? The Dyatlov incident is well-known in Russia, but when American film producer-director Donnie Eichar learned of the mystery, he was compelled to solve it. One of his consulting scientists summed up his quest this way: “What you’re really trying to do is to reverse engineer a tragic event without any witnesses” (248). He manages to do a convincing job uncovering a plausible answer, while also bringing to life these nine intrepid college students, who were only trying to earn their Grade III mountaineering certification.
