The Lonely City: Adventures in the Art of Being Alone by Olivia Laing

emotional reflective medium-paced
i loved this book. hearing david wojnarowicz's story made me feel so very understood. i have new respect for warhol, continued love for solanas, and am so excited to continue researching the others mentioned throughout the book.

the structure is great and the final passage hit HOME! i cried through the last majority of the last chapter and sobbed by the end of those final sentences :o'))

heres some quotes that i loved that im keeping here to have before i can purchase this book! :

'i  think we have to be conscious of what we're after when we're posting our photo. i think we all desire not to feel alone and to feel connected....but in our society celebrity has become the golden lamb...if i can get that, I won't feel alone and will always feel loved."

"...loneliness, longing, does not mean one has failed, but simply that one is alive."

"...remember that the pursuit of individual happiness does not trump or excuse our obligations to each another. We are in this together, this accumulation of scars, this world of objects, this physical and temporary heaven that so often takes on the countenance of Hell. What matters is kindess; what matters is solidarity."
