I almost DNF’d this way earlier. The MMC is super controlling and possessive, and not in the hot Dark Romance kind of way. And honestly I could get past that. Some of my favorite MMCs are complete alphaholes. But this one gets downright mean when FMC gets attitudinal and completely shuts down. Which is perfect I guess because so does she. 

 

Seriously, their complete lack of effective communication is incredibly frustrating and the way she sweeps it under the rug once he’s sweet again just gives me all the ick. Especially considering how good they were together in the first section. 

 

And yeah, maybe the premise had me expecting another Jake Compton from Pucking around and I was disappointed when that didn’t happen. That’s on me, but my point stands. These two are all kinds of toxic for each other and it was just stressful to read pointless arguments that could easily have been circumvented if one or the other had just opened their mouth for more than just slinging attitude or insults. 

 

Ugh. 

 

Outside of that, though, the spice was actually pretty good. The first section (where the title came from) and the spice are literally the only things I have to recommend this, but I personally couldn’t get through it.
