Firekeeper’s Daughter will most definitely be one of my top reads of 2021. This book was EVERYTHING. It has something for everyone: young adult fiction, sports, romance, mystery, crime, coming-of-age storyline, family dynamics, and so much more.

I learned so, so much reading this book. I loved how much information was included about Ojibwe culture and traditions. The author also included information throughout the book about the many ways Indigenous, have been oppressed, victimized, and ignored. It was very eye-opening and heart-breaking to read.

Daunis is an absolutely beautiful character. I loved reading her journey of learning more about herself and finding her identity. And her relationship with Jamie was so beautiful. I don’t normally read romance, but damn, I could not put this book down.

Every single aspect of this book was perfect, and I haven’t been able to stop talking about it since I finished it last week.
