It’s funny how ancient texts can feel more modern than contemporary ones, but Sapfo manages to address timeless themes in a beautiful manner and put them before me now, thousands of years later, and it feels fresh. In many ways it feels like these fragments are exactly what the modernist movement wanted to achieve through the deconstruction of verse and meter.
The translators are doing a great job, but I would’ve liked even more notes to explain aspects and different interpretations.
