The Blue Zones Solution: Eating and Living Like the World's Healthiest People by Dan Buettner

challenging informative inspiring fast-paced

4.0

This was an interesting book to read about a grassroot organizations mission to uncovering the secret to living a long, healthy life that people who live in the 5 Blue Zones: Greece, Italy, California, Okinawa, and Costa Rica - maintain. Then the question of can Blue Zones be manufactured elsewhere in the world - such as America where obesity rates are sky high- possible? And how can Blue Zone habits be adopted by individuals and communities on a systemic scale? All of these questions are answered and more. My favorite part was seeing the recipes. I would say this only gets a 4 star because not a lot of detail went into describing how exactly they were able to accomplish turning small towns with high mortality and disease rates into mini Blue Zones. Overall it was addressed through the broad brush of civic leadership campaigns and community efforts, but I would really like to know what budget and ground work went into achieving that feat because it’s desperately needed in our societies today.
