The Kingdom of Copper by S.A. Chakraborty

5.0

The Kingdom of Copper delivered everything I wanted after reading [b:The City of Brass|32718027|The City of Brass (The Daevabad Trilogy, #1)|S.A. Chakraborty|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1491417547l/32718027._SX50_.jpg|53299478]: more nuanced women characters, more complex politics, queer storylines and just as much excitement. The second book in the Daevabad trilogy, The Kingdom of Copper starts five years after the first book, and all the characters have undergone notable change while retaining their core values and personality traits. The first part of the book is a little more slow as it establishes what's happened in the intervening years, including some flashbacks to book 1 but not so much that it feels repetitive. I loved the political intrigue and how the main three characters process the way they feel as they realized the others have changed. Chakraborty's visual descriptions are sensual and really draw you in too. Can't wait to pick up book 3!
