The second book of The Singing Hills Cycle is just as good as the first one, maybe even a bit better. Once again, we follow wandering cleric Chih, who gets trapped by three ferocious tigers and must save their (and others') lives by telling a story - somewhat reminiscent of Scheherazade, except that the tigers keep interrupting and telling their own version of the story. While the style was as poetic as in the first book, the tone felt a bit less serious, in part thanks to the sassy tigers. Even if you didn't enjoy The Empress of Salt and Fortune, give this short fantasy novella a try!
