Nona the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir

5.0

Tamsyn Muir's writing in this book is very much like Nona herself. She might do something you dislike like giving away the main event in the first chapter's TITLE and try to cover up for it by cutting bits and pieces of information throughout the story to keep it exciting and censor some names, and confuse the hell out of you. But then she goes and names two "Messenger" characters "Aim" and "Emma Sen" and you go just go "she's too cute, I can't stay mad at her, I should've just remembered the names, MY BAD". And it just fits the book so well somehow.

Okay, I need to get my feelings out about everything in this book, there's just so much happening and I've been awake all night reading, I need to vent.

First of all, Nona is SO precious, I love her so much! I loved everything about her just going through life in a city that's about to burn down any second, her house life with Palamedes, Camilla and Pyrrha, it was sooo nice! And I wish they could start a farm as Pyrrha suggested and lived happily ever after. And she just wants to keep puppies, and a very extremely cheap birthday gift, while she's stuck in the center of a ten thousand year old conflict that span the entire universe, poor baby.

Talking about Palamedes and Camilla, I feel bittersweet about their lyctorhood (??). Yes, it was the most romantic scene to have and will ever exist, but Paul just seems different somehow. Paul wasn't around for that long and I already found myself missing Palamedes and Camilla's banter and just their individual personalities in general. But in the end, I think I'm happy for them.

When Pyrrha first emerged in Harrow the Ninth, I knew she would be a cool character and she didn't disappoint. She is badass, caring, lovely, just the whole package and had the body of the Saint of Duty, hell yea!

Corona is still the better of the twins but Ianthe set the bar very low anyways, so that doesn't feel like a compliment. But I loved her interactions with Nona and her loyalty to people from the Canaan House.

Talking about Ianthe, WHAT HAPPENED TO GIDEON?! Friendship bracelet with Ianthe?! Claiming she wants to be the cavalier primary to the doucheGod?? And she was so mean to Nona for no reason! What is happening? Is it because of the piece of her that's missing? Is it the friendship bracelet that's fucking her brains into a mush? At least she told Alecto to get in line when Alecto swore her loyalty to Harrow. Maybe our Gideon is still in there somewhere.

And the conversations between John and Harrow, when did that happen?

PS: Considering all the bible references, I feel like I'm being recruited into a cult without realizing it. Not that I can complain, it's obvious I'll be worshipping Tamsyn Muir for the foreseeable future regardless.
