A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara
4.0
A Little Life is possibly the most depressing book I've ever read, but it also makes for a very cathartic reading experience. The main characters are all fully fleshed-out, and it also has a beautiful prose that really allows the author to show off her talents. The depiction of the resulting trauma from childhood sexual abuse is very realistic, combined with a very thorough exploration into the mind of its victim. Eventhough there are some questionable narrative choices near the end, the achievements of this novel far outweigh its negatives, and this one is definitely something I'll be thinking about for months to come.
