I picked up my ARC of The Dragon’s Rose on a Sunday afternoon when I knew I would need a fun enjoyable fantasy to get through the day. I also read it all in that same day.
This book follows Rose, a human who has struck a deal to be transported to another realm to save her sister. What she didn’t do is read the contract and now she’s also getting married to the dragon king as soon as she gets there. Whoops. But I’m a sucker for arranged marriage, especially when fated mates are also involved.
This book was very easy to fall into, the world building was enough to keep me reading but not so overcomplex that I had to backtrack to remember what was happening. Rose and Malix were both equally enjoyable to be in their heads. The stakes are high for the dragon kingdom and Rose has to fall in love with her new world on her own, and the surly dragon she’s now married to, hasn’t made it easy.
Please note this is not a monster romance, this is a fantasy shifter romance with arranged marriage and political marriage. It’s the first in an interconnected series that I will absolutely be picking up. The pacing is quick, but didn’t feel rushed with the book at approx. 260 pages, my only complaint was I wish there had been more time to be in the tension and angsty parts. 4/5 Stars for me.
