Into The Darkness by Vee Taylor
4.0
Ember Solis’ world gets changed in many unimaginable ways the second she sets foot on the University of Isles campus.
This is a dark romance filled with angst, plot twists and smut. It’s the kind of book that I thought about when I wasn’t reading and that I kept wanting to finish because I needed to know what would happen next.
This however, has been the toughest arc to rate so far this year… I kept fluctuating between a 3.5, a 3.75 and a 4 star rating.
*I settled on a 3.5 rating that I am rounding to 4 stars for Goodreads star rating system*
Overall, I absolutely loved the plot of this book, the dark romance and the possessive vibes.
The setting was also perfectly described and really made me feel like I was right there with the characters.
I love a college romance like this where it feels like the whole world doesn’t really exist beyond the walls of the college. It was even more interesting to see this done with a mafia x cartel background.
Nonetheless, my difficulties with rating this book stem from Ember’s lack of awareness and knowledge of her own world and the way she handles situations. I just wanted to shake her half the time and say !! girl, it’s so obvious what is going on, how do you not see it.
As for her love interest, Ash is the perfect morally grey character who will have you guessing whether you like him or not. I often found myself thinking of his actions and trying to figure out what I thought of them. That for me, is a sign of a good book.
But, I also needed more of a slow burn between these two characters to truly understand what had them wanting to be with each other. It was interesting however to see how they brought out the dark and the light in each other.
Lastly, I’m not a huge fan of the “I didn’t tell you the full truth to protect you” microtrope either and this was rampant among many of the man in this book soo..
Overall, I think the ending of this book was the perfect way to set up some amazing character arcs in book 2 and for some truths to be revealed that I desperately need to know. Let’s just say I know I’ll be reading book 2 as SOON as it comes out because I absolutely need to know what happens next. Here’s to hoping that Ember’s character is infinitely more badass in book 2!
Thank you to Vee Taylor for trusting me with her work
