The Witches by Roald Dahl
5.0
There is something about Roald Dahl's books that really lend themselves to be read aloud. I highly recommend listening to The Witches as an audiobook, especially because of Miranda Richardson's narration. To call what she did just "narration" actually undersells it. The voices she did were perfect for the tone and drew me completely into the story. (As I was listening her voice acting was so brilliant that I kept picturing the story as a Laika movie. It would be incredible!)
Even now as an adult, there is a magical quality in Dahl's writing that makes me nostalgic, even though I didn't read his books as a kid. I decided to listen to The Witches because it's October and fit the season, but I was so enchanted by the story that I might do it again next year. Dahl doesn't pull punches and doesn't avoid the down right macabre. It was a fantastic listen!
