How to Read and Why by Harold Bloom

I don’t know how I liked it. I mean, the author knows a lot, and this book could be an interesting resource someday if you are working at something related to literary analysis. But I am against intellectuals telling me what I should read in my free time, and what I should enjoy. As Bloom is an intelligent man, and his criticism accurate and appropriate, I feel like he is just telling us what we should read. And his criteria alone might not be enough. I missed some female authors, in fact. I don’t believe there is no bright women at history of literature. Why wouldn’t include them?
I don’t mean this book is inappropriate. But maybe we should consider his objectives. Nobody needs a list of men you should read just because. But, if you read those men anyways, you could find an interesting perspective on his works.
