Definitely thought this was a standalone, but there is a book 2 that I’ll most likely read.
If you want a story that filled with legends about witches, witchcraft, sorcery, the church, and a rebellious FMC then this book is for you. The author gives us a chance to see each character inside and out, their flaws and their strengths. Yet, our main character - Immanuelle finds a way to get the information she needs and the most important information comes from the Dark Forest where she is forbidden to enter.
🧙♀️
But what if the things and places you are forbidden are a part of you? What if your rebellious nature is really just a characteristic that can change your entire world? Giving truth that others have pushed aside, fearing that the truth you’ll find will stop everything they’ve built for generations?
🧙♀️
This also is a story of friendship, trust, and alliance. Immanuelle couldn’t trust many people, not with the information she finds out. Hell, her own grandmother betrayed her. But she finds loyalty in a few people and the most important person being in the Prophets own court.
🧙♀️
Honestly, at the end I understood Immanuelle’s choice but I still would have done a few things differently. She really stood on the fact that she wanted Bethel to not be the same as it was - full of men that wanted power, control, and of people burning on a pyre. And women who suffered at the mercy of the men that were supposed to protect them.
