van Hest's prose is both touching a moving. I really enjoyed the illustrations, they were beautifully wrought and accurately reflected the situations being described. I think this is a great book for children who need to cope with loss or grief and the author does a good job at capturing a child's voice. The only problem that I had with the book was that the writing was a little repetitive and awkward in the beginning, but the van Hest gets into a rhythm and it shows.
