The Heir by Kiera Cass
4.0
I am SO happy I finally got this book and of course I finished it within 2 days ... I mean, come on. The Selection series is addictive and they're all easy and fast reads, so I knew it wouldn't take me that long. I just wished I'd have more time with Eadlyn and all these gorgeous boys because I already like them - at least most of them.
"Didn't they know who I was, what they'd trained me for? I was Eadlyn Schreave. No one was more powerful than me. So if they thought I was going down without a fight, they were sadly mistaken."
I have to say that, for me, it started off pretty disappointing - mostly due to Eadlyn. She's bratty, spoiled and self-centered and I just couldn't connect with her. She pretty much only annoyed me and was rude to the boys. However, now that I finished the book I actually like her ... there's some great character development in the book and I like that the Selection made her think about important things that never crossed Eadlyn's mind before it. She opened up a bit and even though there's still lots of work to do and there are general problems with the people of Iléa she seems more happy. I hope to see her fall in love with one of the boys - preferably my favorite, of course. ;)
But speaking of the boys ... there were so many of them! It didn't seem like that with Maxon - I had no trouble remembering the names of all the girls and knowing which one was the "bad" one or the sweet and innocent girl but the boys? It's terrible! Especially if she uses surnames I'm completely lost and don't even know who she's talking about right now ... ugh. But generally speaking I like them a lot! I already have a list of potential guys I want to see with Eadlyn and Kile & Hale are on top of that list. I also really like Henri but ... well, that could be really difficult. Now there's the big BUT. There's one guy that stole my heart. He's on top of everyone and I want this to happen so, so badly! I'm talking about the gorgeous and quiet Erik! *sigh* I can't and won't say too much about him, just that I absolutely adore him even though he didn't appear that much in the book - I do have hope for the second one! LOTS OF HOPE! Don't disappoint me, Kiera!
"There are some things you don't learn about yourself until you let someone else into the most intimate places of your heart."
Overall this was a really enjoyable and fast read and finally got me out of my not-reading-phase that lasted for about 2 weeks (which is really long for me!). I'm just glad this story continues, even though out of a bitchy princess' POV and that we also got some little bits and pieces of Maxon and America. Now I cannot wait for the next book ... I mean seriously, did it have to end like this?! REALLY?!? That cliffhanger is SOOOO cruel and unfair and UGH! Please don't do this to us ... just noooooo. *hopes that everything will end well* Anyway, if you've already read the previous books, be sure to read this one as well! :)
