We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver

5.0

**SPOILERS**

Wow wow wow! Umm wow! That’s all I can really say. Wow! How does a woman get impregnated with MAGA hate or even all the worlds hate and produce Kevin? Then I think no how does a woman get impregnated with her own hate for America. Then I think how does a woman get impregnated with the devil. Then I think how does this add up when the boy is born into money and wants for none for none of it and he has a father how may falsely care for him and then he’s only doing what he knows to be a good father being raised coldly. Both Franklin and Eva are new parents unsure of how to raise their own like any first time parents. Then you see how Kevin acted prior to knowing the world and you wonder is it innate? The bliss of pain...the unempathic ways of people is just innate. Kevin had a plan prior to knowing life? Or experiencing it? I’m in all to think they Eva wanted to balance out the evil in Kevin with Celia only for the good to be defeated. But then closer to the end you see that Kevin has now grown up close to his 18th birthday which could be a sign of developmental delay that hasn’t been discovered. Ugh man then to think you wonder were your husband and daughter are and you contrive a story in your head that they are eating. You go home after learning your son became what you feared a school shooter and then you find he committed Patricide and sororicide. Then you think Eva is free to resume her “jet set” life as she is free of her “duties”. Alas she doesn’t give up on Kevin and you think she loved Celia more or even Franklin more when she loves Kevin the most and even rents or owns a 2 bedroom apartment and has it ready for Kevin when he is released. That’s the most love anyone can give and the most anyone can receive in my opinion. Then you think from the beginning of the book that Franklin and Eva are separated because the letters. Then you hear her talk about how he has Celia and as mentioned above they are both dead and thus she still confused and hasn’t processed the death of these two people. She even tells Kevin that she write to his dad but doesn’t know his address. UGH WOW one of the most powerful novels I’ve read.
