Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

4.0

At first I didn't really like this book. I was excited before I started reading it since I loved both Fangirl and Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell. After reading them I decided to read all books written by Rainbow Rowell, and this one was next in line.

I was annoyed at how simular it was to Harry Potter. So the first 200 pages were a little disapointing. But it slowly became better and I ended up giving it a better rating than I first thought I would. I loved the story as a whole, and I later realized that it wasn't just inspired by Harry Potter, Rainbow Rowell explained in the author's note that there were several stories about "The Chosen One" that she was inspired by, and she made her own twist on it, I did not expect how it would end. It was very exciting towards the end.

I have to give Rainbow Rowell credit for updating her version of the magical world where mages uses technology, and in the magical school they learn magic and normal subjects as well (math, history etc) so I kept thinking that Watford is basically "Hogwarts 2.0" (lol) and I liked that.

The pop culture references and elements of feminism is what really made the book enjoyable for me. Fantasy books doesn't have to be so serious and old fashioned. Also, how cute is Baz and Simon as a couple? I adored their love story.

Can't wait to read more from Rainbow Rowel!
