The premise of this book:
Déroulède accidentally kills the Vicomte de Marny in a duel. The vicomte’s sister, Juliette, swears an oath over his dead body to take revenge on Déroulède. Ten years later, Juliette meets and falls in love with Déroulède.

What I liked:
  • The conversation about the complexities of a woman’s heart 😅 Sir Percy being a mentor about this topic was so cute (especially after his mistakes in the first book 🤭)
  • The portrayal of mob mentality, it’s quite scary to see how quickly things can escalate…

What I disliked:
  • The absence of Marguerite (again) and also
    Chauvelin
?! Where is our favourite antagonist 😭😭
  • The romance. Déroulède seemed to be more in love with the idea of Juliette, rather than the woman Juliette. He placed her on a pedestal in his head and equated her to a perfect angel without even getting to know her character. Also, the fact Juliette was 24 and Déroulède was 40 made him calling her his Madonna kind of creepy 😓
