His Only Wife by Peace Adzo Medie

3.0

Type of read: Commuter Read.

What made me pick it up: One of the suggested books from my library app and one I chose as part of the TN R.E.A.D.s February challenge of reading a book by an African American author.

Overall rating: A simply written story of knowing your worth and not being afraid to do what makes you happy, even if it goes against your family, your culture, and your idea of what strength is. It wasn't until the end when there were parts that I was like, ok, this is what I'm taking away from this book, this is what it's all about. I don't think all books have to have a profound impact on you. You just need to enjoy some of them, and that's how 'His Only Wife' was for me. You can feel the tension and growth Alfi experiences and I 100% contribute that to the straightforward writing from Adzo Medie. 'His Only Wife' would be one of those books I recommend with little extra fanfare, one of those 'oh yeah, I read that, it's a good book,' recommendations.
