Well, well! I didn't know I was starting my Christmas reading already.
"What better time for a demon?"
Alison O'Conner is a mother, wife, artist and author of a beloved children's Christmas book. In reality, she doesn't much care for the holiday. This is in part due to her traumatic upbringing with an unstable mother.
When she is reunited with mother Mavis due to terminal illness, Alison agrees to bring her in to her home to live out her final days.
But Mavis isn't always Mavis, and yet not everyone can see what's happening.
My Darling Girl is another winner from Jennifer McMahon - it starts out as a domestic drama, then morphs solidly into creepy zone.
I definitely need to get to more of the author's back list!
